The Present and Future of AI in Design

With the explosion of artificial intelligence in almost all industries, it is easy to talk about how AI is going to replace humanity, regardless of the profession and designing in no different. It is a fact that people have always feared the developing technology before it gets common among the users. It is beginning to make its way into our daily lives a little by little and making an impact. From easy automation of mental tasks to designing strokes, AI has set its claws deep in graphic designing in a way we haven’t seen since Apple launched its first computer in the market.

The fact that AI is evolving our daily lives is not ignorable. From using our ovens to cook food to google maps to free online design logo maker tool Apple’s Siri and Microsoft’s Cortana AI runs every little thing.

Designers on the other hand like to believe that their creativity sets them apart, but they forget all the technical work they do on the computer is also a part of AI. Designing is no exception. It has been using AI since the dawn of design. Many debates have been taking place about AI and how it is influencing design and development. Machine learning, virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality and deep learning are significant in making a mark and creeping into the designing industry.

But the question is how does AI affect the future of design? What will happen to the designers in the future?

With AI, businesses and customers will have to form new relationships. These relationships are just the beginning of the conversation about how and what changes can AI bring in enhancing sales and services, and designers are going to bring the necessary content that will help business to augment with AI.

AI holds a lot of potential in the designing world. Therefore, the designers are at low risk to lose their jobs. AI is more about the optimization and efficiency of the designers in the industry. With AI they can design at a faster rate taking less time and more cheaply because of the speed and efficiency it has to offer.

Artificial intelligence: a comrade or nemesis?

Artificial intelligence: a comrade or nemesis?

It’s no secret that people have feared AI for losing their jobs. But it is not the case. AI still rely on the human mind to do what it is made to do. They may be able to do the simple things on their own, but they still need heavy instructions from a human to carry out complex tasks. A perfect example of it is the teachable machine where you can teach the machine using hands gesture without using machine codes.

Living in a world where technology is the driving force, people still require the human touch. Although, automation has made human life more comfortable and faster yet AI doesn’t have the power to pull off the heavy tasks without the human input.

As far as human jobs are concerned, there is always a way of new careers waiting to be perused. AI has to go a far distance to take over over the jobs that require the human effort to work on.

It won’t be wrong to say that AI is a designer’s best friend that is working with the designers to increase their efficiency and make their jobs more manageable enabling them to carry out complex task more efficiently rather than having a dreary beginning.

What AI bring to the designing industry?

What AI bring to the designing industry?

As stated above, AI and designers go hand in hand to increase efficiency. Starting with architectural design back in 1961, Marvin Minsky, the co-founder of MIT AI labs, said in his article “I believe that we are on the threshold of an era that will be strongly influenced, and quite possibly dominated, by intelligent problem-solving machines.”

This was said almost 50 years ago. Well, he was right! The evolution of any society takes time.

When we talk about AI, we think that it has the potential to work as humans, but the truth is that it doesn’t have those humanesque qualities to carry out complex tasks. Designers are teaching AI to work more like the humans so they can help us in creating stunning designs in amazing ways. Designers ten will be able to produce more models in the best quality.

Seeing what these symbiotic designs are capable of the designers should be worried about there jobs. Perhaps they should work out a way in which AI can improve their work process and help them in creating surprising results. Here are a few platforms that use AI to design faster.

Grid – launched in 2014 it is an AI design that has produced many web pages, according to their sites. However, the site still has some mixed reviews, but we know what its future holds. This type of design is still at its infancy; we can expect more for it in the future.

Adobe – like Grid adobe’s AI, sensei,  is still at its infancy as well, but its uses are far reaching. As Adobe continues to develop sensei, we are more likely see tasks being managed more efficiently and quickly than ever before.

Artificial intelligence and designers can go hand in hand. Sometimes designers have to go through frustrating tasks like designing a particular design over and over again or making it in different languages.  Now they don’t have to worry about it because the AI system identifies the original version and continue to make localized graphics rapidly. A designer just has to recheck it and tweak any adjustments if required.
